Summary |
Marciel and her mom move out after learning that her father is gay after years of being married to Marciel’s mom. Marciel misses her friends and is lonely until she meets J.D. Unfortunately for J.D., Marciel is also trying to maintain a long distance relationship with Linus and this complicates everything. |
Comments |
The book was good. I like how the girl chose between two guys that she loved. From all the books that I have read, I never heard about a dad being gay after being with his wife for years and having a daughter. I loved how it had real life experience that happens to people. |

Born of Illusion by Teri Brown |
Rating /Grade |
Good/B+ |
Summary |
This book is a historical fiction. It is set around the 1920’s in New York, when Harry Houdini was knocking about. Our main subject is a young adult Anna Van Housen, a budding magician in the shadow of her mother. That’s one of her internal conflicts, along with wondering if Houdini is her father. Also, choosing between two boys Cole or Owen, as her lover. External conflicts she faces are the constant lying and hiding her secret power of feeling other people’s emotions. This gets her in trouble because mediums are looked down upon. |
Comments |
For the most part, it was tension between Anna and her mother. Also creating a romance between Cole and Owen. The main plot needed to pick-up better. Later in the book, others are wanting to harvest Anna’s powers or desire her fame of the possibility of being Houdini’s daughter. The climax is anti-climatic, the first twist was pretty good. |
